Guidelines for Submission

We accept original poems, short stories, short plays, and creative non-fiction.
We seek good writing.
We do not look for specific themes or subjects.
Work must be original, and not previously published.
Simultaneous submissions are acceptable, but please notify us if your work is accepted elsewhere.
Contributors may submit 3-5 poems. Approximately 5,000 words is the limit for stories, plays, or creative non-fiction.

For All Submissions:

Send a Cover Page with the following information:
- Author's Name
- Mailing Address
- Contact Number
- Email Address
- List of Works Submitted

Do not include your name on the pages of your submission

Work must be printed from a computer or typed

For E-Mail Submissions Only:

Send only MS Word files

Send your Cover Page in the body of the email and your work by attachment (in separate files for multiple submissions)

We will notify you if we cannot open the attachments.

 

Submission for Cover

We can only accept images in portrait orientation at this point.
All images submitted should be in jpeg format and 100dpi resolution (a file of higher resolution will be required upon selection for publication).

Response & Notification

The selection process for each issue is an international process, involving readers and editors from all over the world. Due to the large number of submissions and complex correspondence globally, we will contact the selected contributors before Yuan Yang's annual launch held in February or March.

Writers whose submissions are selected may therefore expect an email notification of acceptance (and editorial comments, if any) in the months of January/February. Those who do not hear from the editors by the end of February may consider their submissions not selected for the current issue. Resubmission is possible for consideration in future issues.

Writers whose work appears in the journal can expect two copies in the mail during the months of June/July/August. Please notify the editors if there is a change to your mailing address. Otherwise, the copies will be sent to the address that you provide on the Cover Sheet.

To contact the editors regarding a change of mailing address, please send an email to yuanyang@hku.hk with the subject line "Change of Mailing Address".

To purchase additional copies with a contributor's discount, please send an email to yuanyang@hku.hk with the subject line "Purchase Discounted Contributor's Copies".

Queries to Yuan Yang during the course of the academic year September - May will receive responses every 4 weeks and every 6 weeks during the summer months of June - August. We thank you in advance for your understanding and patience. We look forward to reading your submissions.
