Profile

Luciana Gattass holds a magna cum laude BA in Film Studies from Columbia University (1999), and both an MA and a PhD in Literary Theory from the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio, 2007 and 2011).  In 2010 she was a Visiting Doctoral Fellow at Brown University researching digital aesthetics.  Both her MA and PhD studies have been fully funded by prestigious grants from the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq). Her PhD dissertation explored the theory and aesthetics of electronic literature and art and earned her a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Bergen in 2012, where she curated the Brazilian Electronic Literature Collection for the ELMCIP (Electronic Literature as a Model of Creativity and Innovation in Practice) Knowledge Base. In 2013 Gattass joined the Media Theory Department at State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) as a Postdoctoral Affiliate working on the application of media theory to the phenomenon of the social network.  In 2014 Gattass moved to Hong Kong, where she served as a part-time Lecturer at The Chinese University of Hong Kong and gave talks at conferences on Digital Humanities and Digital Culture.  She co-curated the exhibit "Decentering: Global Electronic Literature” for the ELO (Electronic Literature Organization) symposium held in Bergen, Norway, in August 2015.
