The award welcomes submissions worldwide. The winner receives HK$2,500 and publication of a first collection of poems with The Hong Kong University Press.

Eligibility

A poet writing in English who has not previously published, or self-published, a full-length collection of poems is eligible to submit to The HKU Poetry Prize. This contest is open to poets worldwide.




Guidelines

Length of Manuscript: Manuscripts must be at least 48 pages in length.

Format of Manuscript: Manuscripts should be single-spaced and printed in Times New Roman or a similar plain font.

Reading Fee: A HK$275* reading fee will accompany each manuscript. Online credit card payment or a cheque is accepted.

Simultaneous Submissions: Manuscripts considered elsewhere may be submitted, but we must be notified immediately if the collection is accepted for prize or publication.

Note: The poet's name must not appear anywhere in the manuscript. If a name appears in the manuscript, the collection will be disqualified.

Submission

Online: Please click "Submit Online" and fill in the required fields on the submissions page, and attach the PDF version of the manuscript to hkuprize@hku.hk. Manuscripts must be saved in PDF format, and the file name should bear the title of the book.


By Mail: All submissions sent by mail must include a cover page. The cover page template can be downloaded here. The manuscripts must be printed only on one side and must not be bound.

In one package, please include the following: (1) your manuscript (2) a cover page.
